Dr. Richard Spera specializes in helping patients live and benefit from healthier and happier lifestyles. As founder and President of Integritas Medical Institute, he has the opportunity to practice personalized, direct primary care in Huntsville, Alabama, fulfilling a life-long medical practice ambition.
During his 17 years of practice, Dr. Spera became interested in the prevention of degenerative diseases, which will affect us, as we grow older. He had seen first-hand that modifying disease risk factors before illness ensues is far more effective than disease treatment in maintaining a high quality of life.
A native of New Haven, Connecticut, Dr. Spera earned his BS and MD degrees from Georgetown University. His internship and residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Infectious Diseases were completed at North Shore University Hospital-Cornell University Medical College. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He is a member of Sigma XI, the American Society for Microbiology and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
In 1996, Dr. Spera was elected to fellowship in the American College of Physicians. In 2005, he completed his tutorial training in Age Management Medicine jointly sponsored by Cenegenics Medical Institute and The Foundation for Care Management. He holds the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama Birmingham, School of Medicine. He is also an Adjunct Research Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama.
